SAVE FEED COSTS WITH HYDROLYZED LECITHIN

31/08/2023 Poultry

Over time, advancements in broiler breeding have enhanced the growth potential of chicks, enabling them to grow more rapidly and utilize dietary nutrients more efficiently. The key to realizing the genetic potential of broilers lies in optimizing farm practices and diets. Formulating these diets involves the incorporation of substantial levels of fats, which need to be effectively emulsified to maximize their utilization by the birds. Hydrolyzed lecithin, also known as lysolecithin, emerges as a promising solution for reducing dietary fat levels or replacing costly fat sources with more affordable alternatives. Hydrolyzed lecithin produced by Olus, not only lowers expenses but also supports animal health and maintains productivity.

Broiler feed is usually nutrient-dense to facilitate rapid growth to realise their genetic potential. However, broilers lack sufficient bile salts and pancreatic lipase to optimally digest and absorb fat, especially at young age and/or high dietary fat levels. Such limitations can be solved by using dietary emulsifiers.

Redefining feed efficiency with lysolecithin

Is it possible to reduce dietary fat levels without compromising performance? Lysolecithin is the answer. Derived from hydrolyzed lecithin, these natural energy boosters offer a solution by enhancing nutrient digestibility through improved emulsification and pancreatic enzyme secretion. Additionally, they support intestinal nutrient absorption by facilitating mixed micelle formation and increasing membrane permeability. Thereby, lysolecithins allow the partial replacement of expensive fat sources with more budget-friendly alternatives. This ultimately reduces feed costs while maintaining optimal growth and productivity.

Better growth with less feed

Our feed solution Olus®Digest ontains a high concentration of hydrolyzed soy lecithins. Hydrolyzed soy lecithins contain lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) and lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE). LPC is a major emulsifying component and LPE is an important components of the lipid bilayer of cell membranes and increase their fluidity and consequently the absorption capacity of the intestinal epithelium cells.

Enriching feed with this natural energy booster makes a significant difference in animal health and performance. They grow faster with less feed! Hereby, Olus®Digest can save about 10 euros per ton of feed at current cereal and fat prices. In young animals, the hydrolyzed soy lecithin in Olus®Digest naturally improves fat digestibility. Fat droplet size in the watery intestinal environment is reduced, increasing its accessibility to the pancreatic lipase for fat digestion. On top of that, Olus®Digest improves nutrient absorption by improving the permeability of intestinal cells.

With the continuous challenge to provide cost-effective, high-quality feed to the animals, lysophospholipids have proven their added value in controlling feed costs, increasing profitability, and improving sustainable animal production.
